Selecting a good RC drift car could be tricky and could depend on several considerations. Let us discuss a few of the selection criteria in detail in the forthcoming paragraphs.
The most important consideration should be age of the intended user. If it is intended to be used by a kid, it is advisable to buy an entry level variant of the drifter. These are mostly powered by pencil or button sized cells or occasionally through electric power. These drifters do not generate very high speeds and have restricted movement options, therefore it is considered to be safe for the child.
The next important consideration would be purpose of use. RC Drifters are available in category of toys as well as advanced, high end variants. The more advanced categories are used by adults usually for gaming and competition purposes. Such drifters are mostly nitro powered and are capable of generating exhilarating speeds (often in the range of hundred miles per hour). Depending upon whether the intention is to participate in gaming races, there are various options and manufacturers to choose from.

A popular Off-Lander RC Drifter variant
Another important consideration is budget. RC Drifters usually are available from a few hundred dollars or lower and can even cost up to thousands. While a pint sized miniature would be some where around the hundred dollar price tag, a bigger variant could cost more. Depending upon manufacturer, standard features of the equipment would vary and with it, the price tag would also differ. The decision to choose the desired RC Drifter type would essentially depend on the purchaser’s budget.
Another consideration could be the fuel preference. Many buyers are not confident about using nitro fuel option, in spite of its ability to generate much more power and infrequent fuel refilling required. Reason being, nitro is an extremely inflammable gas and could pose security hazards in many user conditions or particularly if they are intended for kids. On the other hand electrically powered drifters are considered to be very safe from the inflammability point of view. Although the electrically powered drifters would not produce exhilarating speeds or movement options, there is no inherent danger of the drifter blowing up in an explosion or catching fire due to overheating or any accidental fire.
A careful consideration of the above factors would definitely enable the customer to pick up the correct variant of RC drifter.

Rc car drifting starts as a hobby and you will be astonished to know that in no time it turns into a passion. Passions that you cant live without. Also known as remote controlled cars they are frequently referred to as Rc cars, drifting here can be termed as maneuvering. More and more people are getting hooked on to this hobby which in no time turns into passion, you just cant do without Rc cars.
If you thought Rc car drifting was a Childs play, you need to rethink, Rc car drifting requires technical know how and you need to practice a lot to achieve drifting in the desired manner. You generally have to negotiate U turns or S shaped turns and this is the reason why practice is a must. It is all about how smoothly and quickly you can negotiate or drift in these terrains.

Rc cars have special tyres, which assist them to drift in a desired manner. These tyres have special grooves for that perfect grip that is required for Rc car drifting. The rear wheels of your Rc car are suppose to drift and that is why instead of tripping or falling the car maneuvers the curve by drifting. Rc cars come to you in two versions, electric Rc cars and nitro Rc cars. If you are a beginner it is advisable that you start with an electric Rc car, though both have there advantages as well as disadvantages.
You have to follow a few steps in case you are a beginner. The first and probably the last thing that you need to understand is that you have to get the right or balanced control of the throttle and steering. You should know at exactly what speed your Rc car will drift or else it will fall. Here lies all the cache. Theory alone will not help you with your Rc cars and moreover, drifting. Watching videos will also not give you appropriate results because you can learn drifting your Rc car only by practicing. You have to practice the same and become a master of throttle and steering control. If you can master this technique you will be able to drift your Rc car to perfection.
Rc car drifting is becoming a rage and with a lot many competitions for Rc car drifters people are now increasingly trying to be better if not the best so that they can take part in these competitions. People love to see the way they drift their car also, there are people who just love to watch cars screeching, competing and drifting at high speed.
As mentioned earlier people are getting more and more passionate about Rc car Drifting. It is there passion that makes them practice for hours at a stretch so that they can drift their car properly. It is all about passion when it comes to Rc car drifting.

RC Car Drifting has evolved as a popular gaming option amongst present day adults. Earlier RC drifters were mostly electrically powered, however with the advancement of technology, nitro powered fast and furious machines have emerged which are capable of giving real adrenaline rushes to the users.
There are various techniques associated with RC car drifting. In the forthcoming paragraphs, we would discuss about a few of them.
Faint Drifting Style – This is a commonly used drifting technique usually undertaken for negotiating corners or bends at very high speeds. This drift style starts with speeding up your car by revving up the throttle, then as you approach the corner turn the drifter slightly to the outer corner followed by a sharp turn to the inside corner. Once the back portion of the drifter starts to slide, simply counter steer and your car would complete the corner in a high speed. Gradually lessen the throttle force and jam on the brakes therefore the drifter would come to a screeching halt. This technique is particularly suitable for sharp “S” type curves and can be perfected with substantial amount of practice. The only caution to be exercised is not to counter steer too much; otherwise the drifter would turn completely and could bang against the wall or the edges of the corner.

A popular nitro variant of sports drifter
Power over turn – In this technique, the drifter is made to generate maximum possible torque (or engine acceleration) to steer through the turn.
Jumping Drift – Power your way forward by pressing the throttle to the full and then apply sudden brakes. This would cause the rear tire to lose contact with the ground and would generate considerable over steer. While air borne, turn the drifter to the right or lift, according to the lane ahead and this would give you a spinning feeling once the rear tire lands back on the track and the drifter’s momentum propels it forward at break neck speed. Remember, this could be a very risky proposition if the brakes and throttle pressure are not correctly timed, otherwise your drifter can do a turtle turn.
There are many more drifting techniques put to use by gaming and drifting enthusiasts. Irrespective of the style, all drifting techniques have one thing in common – they all require immense amount of practice and repeated rehearsals to be perfected. A zooming drifter, performing different varieties of stunts is a treat to watch, but it requires lot of hard work to master the tricks of the trade.

In earlier days, when RC drifting was not commercial, a couple of tricks were adopted to drift the car sideways. Let us now see how to drift tires in a shoestring.
As one-tenth of remote control was almost similar to real cars, they would no doubt drift. But the main problem associated with it is that it cannot be made into a reality without incredibly powerful motor and huge tires that costs much.
To drift well on rubber tires, people those days tried to change the surface. A best example would be drifting in underground parking lots. Recently, experiments were carried out by changing the tires to drift rather than changing the surface of the road. Taping the tires was a better option. Insulation tapes were mainly used to leave the tire without any friction. Taping the tires only on the outer edged rather than taping the whole tire can provide a better drift. A strip down the center of each tire leaving the edges open can also help in drifting.
We need to experiment and find out the best thing that can suit our car to perform drifting. Our driving style also has to be taken into consideration for doing a proper modification.
Tamiya later introduced a tire made of very hard rubber to perform drifting. It gave the tires a lot of friction. With nitro cars these tires can really be perfect. Yokomo released another variety of tires that included two hard plastic rings to favor drifting. They were replaceable yet costly. These rings were later replaced by a solid center ring which was also replaceable the disadvantages being, it wares out too quickly and too costly like the former.
The contemporary period tires used for drifting are very hard and made of polyethylene. It gives the tires a very firm grip while performing the drifting. It also lasts longer than hard rubber tires and taped tires. It does not wares out quickly too.
The tires can be heated up and the rim can be cooled down to fit the polyethylene tires. Rims can be kept in fridge to cool them down and hair dryer can be used to heat up the tires. When they cool down or heat up the polyethylene tire will fit tightly and closely on the rims.
While competing with others, choosing the proper drift tire is very important. Using a different drift tire can make our car perform differently on the track. Also, if we have too much friction on the tires, we will have too much speed yet it can favor us only when we are racing. If our tires do not have enough traction, we may not be able to control big drifts.

Drifting race
To make a tire to drift, taping can be an option but it won’t last long. It will wear out easily in a couple of runs and it cannot be used in a competition and even if we use it, the chances of winning are not so bright.

Rc drifting means remote control drifting. If you are a beginner you will find Rc drifting difficult than driving your own car. But once you start drifting your Rc car you will find it to be fun loving and interesting as well. Rc drifting is an art of how to maneuver or drift your Rc car to perfection. Rc drifting has become a passion for some. Rc drifting is a hobby for others. Rc drifting is a rage for a lot many, and is growing by the day. You will also find Rc drifting competitions being held quite frequently hence if you want to become an Rc drifting master, you need to practice a lot.
In order to master the art of Rc drifting, you need to practice and understand how to drift your remote controlled car. Drifting is an art and the technique needs to be mastered. You can start by understanding the throttle, speed and steering control in a smaller area. As mentioned earlier drifting is about negotiating or how well can you negotiate the turns and hence your remote controlled car. You are advised to use special drift tyres that will give stability to your remote controlled car while drifting.
Start by understanding how your Rc car runs when you turn the steering completely on one side, it will give you an insight how fast the car turns and the radius it needs, this you need to observe very closely, you will do this by providing full throttle. This time turn the steering on one side, completely and with full throttle start slackening the steering of your Rc and you will find the radius of the car to be increasing and you will see that your Rc is spinning less. By doing it again and again you will master the art of drifting your Rc car.
Apply full throttle to your Rc car, your Rc car steering should be completely on one side then start decreasing the throttle and controlling your Rc car through the steering only, you will observe how your car drifts and the pattern it follows this time. By now you will be in a position to understand that you have to find a balance between your Rc car throttle and it’s steering. You have to remember and practice all these steps a lot in order to master the art of drifting your Rc car.
This time apply full throttle to your Rc car, with steering completely on one side, now start decreasing your throttle and try and maintain it at half. Watch very carefully how your Rc car drifts this way. Do it vice versa this time by keeping the throttle full and bringing the steering to half. See the difference now.
You can do perfect training by placing an object on the surface and then try all the steps mentioned above. You will find that you will become an Rc drifter or rather a master of Rc drifting.

Remote Control car drifting is fast becoming the modern day miniature replica of real life formula one racing. With the advancement of technology, many variants of RC drifters are available these days which provide excitement levels comparable to actual races. These cars are capable of generating terrific speeds and can be controlled left, right and centre depending upon the wishes and whims of the remote control holder. Although car drifting started as a kid’s sport, it has now taken the shape of full fledged adult sport, with many countries even hosting professional car drifting competitions. The excitement and ecstasy of these events are in no way lesser as compared to real motor sports events.
Cars or replicas of cars used for RC drifting were initially powered through electricity. These models had limited maneuverability and were not high on power. These were essentially in the category of toys. Such cars were capable of generating limited speeds and they were not much durable also. Then came the more advanced nitro powered RC drifters. These are the market leaders, so far as all RC drifters are available today. Feature wise, these nitro powered cars were very close to original cars. They had doors which would open; sun roofs which would slide back and forth and even had smoke emissions coming out from their tail pipes. In all practicality, the look and feel aspect of nitro powered drifters were strikingly close to real life counterparts. Nitros, as they are popularly known were capable of generating exhilarating speeds also. The build quality of these products was also very rugged. Another advantage which this category of drifters had over their electrically powered counterparts was, they did not require frequent recharging.
Due to their rugged looks and mind blowing features, nitros are presently considered to be the most popular category of RC drifters.

A popular nitro powered racing drifter
Most popular variants of RC drifters include Nitro Trucks, Off-Landers and Wagon wheel carriers. Trucks are by far the most popular category. They can be used on roads and even on unfriendly terrains. Nitro trucks are manufactured under crash test conditions, which ensure that the bodies of these drifters are virtually unbreakable. They can be driven over bad roads, bumped into walls or against partitions, made to jump over drains at break neck speeds…. the list of possibilities seems exhilarating and endless. All these and more can be achieved with very few number of refueling breaks.

Remote Control Car Drifting or RC Drifting as it is popularly known is a form of sport which has evolved very recently. With the development of technology and newer inventions in the toys industry, RC Drifting is fast becoming a popular pastime not only with children, but most surprisingly even with adults.
Remote control cars are a development of what was earlier known as radio controlled cars. These are toys, albeit with surprisingly advanced technical features and are almost fully maneuverable as their real life counterparts. Drifting is a technique by which such toy cars are directionally controlled and gives the user a feel of real motor sport. Often these toy cars can be drifted at very high speeds, up to hundred miles per hour and because of this reason, it has caught the fancy of many racing prone adults.
For beginners to RC Car drifting, there is the toy category. This has limited features and offer restricted maneuverability. Most of this range is readily available in toy stores. Major brands manufacturing RC drifting cars are Mattel of USA, Ninja of Japan etc. However, a full fledged drifting enthusiast may not be fully satisfied with this range.
For highly advanced drifting geeks, there are the hobby grade cars. This category has full functional features of a live sized car and can generate speeds which are comparative to a real car. All at the control of your fingertips, these vehicles give you a genuine adrenaline rush. The hobby grade RC drifting cars are extremely durable and in many cases, the manufacturers actually make them undergo high speed crash tests. Quality wise also, they are more advanced than the toy grade.
RC Drifting as a hobby has developed quite recently. Presently, there are three types of drifting cars available. They are Electric, Nitro and Trucks.

Pic of a modern day Nitro truck
Electrically operated RC Drifters provide great look and feel experience. Convertible models have their hoods popping in and out and at very high speeds actually emit smoke from their tail pipes. Almost all the popular sports models like Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagon and Audi have their drifter variants available and are all operated electrically.
Nitro powered cars operate on a unique combination fuel made up of nitro methane, methanol and oil. These are much faster than the electrically powered drifters and do not need the hassles of frequent recharging. Capable of generating tremendous speeds, nitro is the most popular of all available RC drifters.
Trucks are a completely separate category of RC drifters and can come in either electric or nitro. Of all commonly available RC drifters, these have the most appealing look and feel and can provide maximum benefit to the drifting enthusiast.

The remote control drift car, TT01 uses a planetary gear set up which rotates under a central gear. This is used for rear diff and is also easy to convert. There are two ways to lock this diff. One way is to open the diff and fill it with glue from a glue gun. By taking a small piece of fuel tubing and cutting it open along its length, this can then be rolled around one of the planetary gears. It is advisable to close the diff and check for the desired result before we put it back. Buying one of the spools of the hop – up type can be another option.
Let us now discuss about another type of RC drift car – TA05. It can use the ball diff at the front and back which is quite tough to modify yet it can be modified using pop rivets. All we have to do is to open the diff, remove the ball bearings and metal plates that the balls run along. Three holes can then be drilled in the side to get both halves of the diff. They can then be pop riveted together and the rivets can be filed down. We have to be extremely cautious to do this. The mechanism is not reversible and making a mistake can even destroy the diff. The holes going through the diff will eventually destroy it because it will be weakened by the holes. For TA05, Spool diff is available and it will also be a better option.
We can try out certain different setups to find out the one that will really suit our car in all the best possible way. These setups can vary from car to car but the basic principle behind everything is the same. To get more control, it is always preferable to use a front one-way diff or a center one-way diff. It should be noted that using brakes at any time is the same as using e-brake or hand-brake. Using a hand-brake can be very useful when one wish to initiate a drift. A proper usage of hand-brake can drift a real car by 180 degrees. It has become more common that people have even started drifting their cars by 270 or 360 degrees.

RC Drift
It is a general opinion that drifting is more exciting than racing. While both drifting and racing requires lots of skills, racing is purely dependant on the type of car we use. So it cannot be said that the TT01 will always win a carbon – fiber racing in a race. When it comes to drifting, it can be guaranteed that TT01 can out perform any car set for the challenge. Drifting is not an easy task. It requires lot of driving skills but with enough potential, good drifters can no doubt achieve victory. A good financial baking is very essential for racing but drifting does not require a heavy backing. This is a great advantage for the drifters.

Drifting the car using a remote control is becoming popular day by day. Let us discuss some steps that can convert an old 1/10 touring car into a drift car that suits the drifters. Learning and following these steps is also very easy.
Changing the angle yet controlling the car in a proper manner by bringing the rear end of the car around is named as drifting. It’s the variation or movement from any normal motion of the car. Whenever the driver approaches a corner or a turn, he can perform this drift, maintaining the desired speed and angle. The driver has to perform it carefully without making any damage to the tires or other parts of the car. It should always be kept in mind that drifting should be performed in a well controlled manner.
A question that commonly arises is that whether a RC car can drift or not? Well the answer is yes. Even a basic model of RC car can drift, if performed correctly. With the level of set up involved in RC car racing, drifting can be made possible. Some modifications can be made in the steel body of the car and some basic steps have to be followed to get more angle and speed.
To learn the basic steps involved in drifting, let us take some common examples of RC cars, Tamiya TT01 and Tamiya TA05. Breaking the traction is the first step in drifting. This is important because of the power to weight ratio of RC cars. Drift tires is very important to get the car drift sideway. If we are unable to get the drift tires for RC cars, it is advisable to use an insulation tape. It should be kept in mind that the tape should be wrapped in the same direction as that of the turn of the wheel. A better idea to do this is to lay down the tape and roll the car over it. For surfaces that have a very low friction, taped tires is suited the best. To achieve bigger drifts, more friction is needed. If we need to compete on a tight track, more traction is useless. This is because the torque needed to break traction will generate a lot of speed.
After the taping is done on the tires, it is up to the driver to set the ride height and wheel angles. The rear differential or spool diff is very important in drift. Spool diff implies that both the wheels must turn at the same time. As a result of spool diff, what happens is that the car will break and gain its friction again on command. Another advantage is that drifts controlling can be easier. Also, the angle associated with drift is directly proportional to the throttle.

Powerful Drifting
So an overall control is essential to perform drifting. Also, drifting should be practiced well before trying it in public. Necessary precautionary measures should also be taken to take care of the car body and maintained properly to prevent any accidents from happening.

What is this Drifting?
Drifting refers to a specific driving style. Now days, this is a popular upcoming sport all over the world. Wherein the driver on purpose over steers with an intention to loose traction in the rear wheels while turning and at the same time the driver is also required to maintain total control of the vehicle and the speed levels are also to be maintained at the same level. Doing all the mentioned together and successfully is called drifting.
Talking of the history of drifting, I would have to take you half way across the globe to Japan. This is where the sport originated. Kunimitsu Takahashi a legendary motor cyclist was the first one to come up with these techniques, and this all happened in the late 70s’. His popularity was for hitting the apex and then drifting through the corner. The scene of burning tires got him a lot of championships with quite ease. Tsuchiya began practicing his drifting techniques and soon gained popularity as the drift king. In 1987 several popular car magazines were quiet eager to produce a video on Tsuchiya’s drifting skills.
We do have records of drift events being held outside Japan in 1996. This was under the patronage of the Japanese magazine “Option” and was held at “Willow Springs Raceway” in California USA. Keiichi Tsuchiya and Kenji Okazaki were also a part of this demonstration in the United States in a Nissan 180SX. The event was judged by and Bryan Norris with Rhys Millen. Since then this RC drift culture or RC drift sport gained popularity in the United States beyond words could explain. This sport was not limited to the boundaries of Japan and United States. Rather it has traveled all over the globe to the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia. In Europe the first drifting competition ever was hosted by the OPT drift club at Turweston in the year 2002.
In the modern days Drifting competitions are judged by the judges based on the show factor, speed, line, and angle. In these games it’s very normal to see a disagreement between the judges; also there are times when the crowd also disagrees with the judges under these situations the drifts continue, till some one gathers enough points to supersede the other. Now if you are a starter you might be thinking what a wired game this is. So my answer to you would be welcome the world of drifting.
