If you are really in to the RC car drifting, then you probably know why the modifications are necessary in the cars. But in case you are a novice in this sport then you might be wondering why it’s to be done and more importantly How to modify a RC car for a better drift? So here is a little some thing to answer the questions that you might be having.
Choosing the car type – Always prefer electric cars, as they are light weight and the motors in them are also more durable. On the other hand the Nitro RC cars tend to have a problem with the motor due to over revving, when the wheel spins.
First – If you are looking for the front and the rear ends to drift together, that is move sideways then what you need is a 4 wheel drive RC Car. This would also help you prevent the looping problem. By the way looping means a total 360 degree turn.
Tires – The RC cars to be found in the market would come with hard rubber tires and they tend to loose traction easily. So the work around for that would be to put PVC pipes around the wheel that should take care of the problem.
Suspension Alteration – This is optional for most of the cars as they already come customized for the drift. However just to give you an idea of how it works, I would say the stiffer the suspension is the bad it is. You can modify it by changing the springs in them or changing the oil grade in the shock absorbers.
The Motor – This is the heart of your RC car. Please ensure they are not running on stock motors. In case you are not happy with not then you would have to go for an engine change. Please take in to consideration the fact that higher speed rate is always inversely proportional to number of engine turns.
Drive Train – This is also another optional modification. An optional way to do the drifting is by locking up the differential gears, both in the front and the rear. The way to do that would be using a paper towel. You need to wad and then stuff it in to the gears this would convert your four wheel drive car in to an All wheel drive car. And long lasting drift performance would be assured.
And with this you should by now know How to modify a RC car for a better drift and you are all set …. So happy drifting.
